WINTER 2013 The Everlasting Circle  Another of our original productions, a Comedy of the Seasons in Mythology and Song.

As our regular enthusiastic audiences know, any production by Aperitivo is a little... unusual.  A trio of Dutchmen caper through the legends of the Colne Valley in Yorkshire, England, attempting to pull the reflection of the moon from a pond in the Winter, to build a wall around a cuckoo to capture the Spring, to spin with the lilies in the Summer, and to boil up lead to mend their barrel of beer in the Autumn.

Their activities are psycho-analysed - forcefully - by Brünnhilde Freud, a Valkyrie from the great Ring Cycle of Norse Mythology, upheld by the Norns - the three sisters who weave the Fates of men.   A Policeman stands for Rationality, a band of Druids stands for Spirituality, and John Barleycorn stands (or falls over) for Beer.  (He is also beaten, buried and resurrected - but such is the fate of many victims of mythology.)

The songs - in four languages plus Australian, and ranging from folk to opera - are supplied by an excellent chorus as well as contributions from the actors.

The Cutting Edge of Psychoanalysis. . .

Natascha Wocke plays Brünnhilde Freud in "The Everlasting Circle” - a presentation of the changing seasons based on legends from the Colne Valley in Yorkshire, England.  How pleasant and delightful it sounds - until you realize that Valkyrie Brünnhilde is in charge (and I use the word 'charge' deliberately) of the Psychoanalysis of the legends of the changing seasons.

A gentle stroll through the pastoral year?  I don’t think so.
